Dan Jatres (Vice President & Interim-President / Membership Coordinator) I’m primarily a recreational bicyclist, with some transportation cycling. I’ve been cycling since I was old enough to ride a bike, and have used my bike extensively since living in New Orleans. While an undergrad at Tulane, I worked on bicycle issues on campus and on select projects with the Regional Planning Commission. For the past two and a half years, I’ve been program manager of the Greater New Orleans Pedestrian & Bicycle Program.

Liz Davey (Treasurer) Liz is a Program Manager in the Office of Environmental Affairs at Tulane University, where she works with students, staff, and faculty on the programs to make the university more environmentally sustainable.  She is a bike commuter and hopes to get back to recreational road cycling soon.

Parker Schonekas (Secretary) "For me, cycling is a win-win.  It is a great form of exercise; is the least expensive form of transportation; is a completely sustainable and environmentally-friendly form of transportation; is a way to encourage and build communities by getting people out of their closed-door cars and home; and could be a way for New Orleans to further distinguish itself as a fun and progressive city."

Kate Drabinski

James Lancaster "As a civil engineering graduate from Tulane University, I have been drawn to systematic transportation solutions, and too often, personal motor vehicles edge out pedestrians, transit, and bicyclists in the design phase. The last time I moved, I made sure it was in a dense urban neighborhood, not too far from where I would work or play so that I could walk, bike, and bus as viable transportation options to supplement driving. This is particularly useful to save money, especially when gasoline is $4 per gallon.

I joined the Young Leadership Council (YLC) in 2008, and am a Project Leader for Where Ya’ Rack?, a bike rack sponsorship project.  Our goal for 2010 is 100 sponsored bike racks installed in New Orleans.  Follow us on Twitter or Facebook or RSS to learn more about the project and see how many racks we have left to reach our goal."

John Renne is an Assistant Professor of Transportation Studies and Urban Planning at the University of New Orleans and Associate Director of the UNO Transportation Center. He specializes in Transportation and Land Use Planning, with a focus on Transit, Bicycling, Walking. His current research includes the National Study on Carless and Special Needs Evacuation Planning and a study of Urban Design and the Safety of Bicyclists and Pedestrians in New Orleans, Funded by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in coordination with the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission. You may reach John at jrenne@uno.edu.

Kara Renne "At the age of twelve, I discovered that my bicycle meant freedom from my parents for transportation.  I set forth on the roads and quickly learned the perils that cyclists face.  Nowadays I ride my bicycle for short trips around town to shop, dine, and meet friends.  I strongly believe that cycling can be a defining feature for the future of New Orleans.  When I am not riding my bicycle or walking my dog, I work as an urban planner at the Regional Planning Commission."

Jeff Schwartz Jeff is an urban planner and self-described flâneur who is in love with the Crescent City.  He is currently the Director of Broad Community Connections, a neighborhood development organization and urban Main Street working to revitalize the neighborhoods lining Broad Street.  Jeff has a Master's degree in Urban Planning, with a focus on urban design and community economic development, and he is interested in the relationship between the built environment of a community and the health, engagement, and vibrancy of its citizens.  And he loves bikes.

James Wilson "My wife and I moved from Baltimore, Maryland to New Orleans in 1999.  I've been a recreational cyclist for over 20 years, and a bike commuter off and on during that time.  Since I stopped working in the car centered suburbs in 2007, I now ride the streets of New Orleans everyday to work.  Cycling is part of my everyday life, whether I'm riding to work, taking a fast ride on the levee, or a leisurely ride around Audubon Park with my wife and dogs (in their trailer).

I'm passionate about the bicycle as a legitimate form of transportation, and believe everyone of all abilities should be able to enjoy safe streets - walkers, cyclists, and motorists.  Advocating street and neighborhood design that encourages cycling and walking is the best way to get people out of their cars and onto bicycles - and the more bicycles the better!

My blog is truckbike.org where I comment on my experience as an everyday cyclist in New Orleans."
